  • The Arc of Harris County

Serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Autism.
    11/28/2023 - 12/31/2024

The Arc of Harris County was established in 1984 led by the efforts of parents and community leaders interested in improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities largely in response to the words: “nothing can be done for your child.” The Arc of Harris County's focus was to connect parents and family members with the resources needed to feel confident and capable of caring for and helping their child thrive. Parents and family members turned to The Arc from infancy to adulthood, especially during school years.

    Programs and Services:

Right To Learn Program provides training and resources to help families navigate the special education system and ensure their children are receiving the appropriate educational supports and services.

Social and Leisure Program includes camps, weekend activities, monthly dances, vacations offering our members opportunities to create friendships, explore their community, and develop new skills. At the same time, it allows caregivers much needed respite.

Grupo de Apoyo a Familias Hispanas (Familias Hispanas Support Group) brings our Spanish speaking members together and provides information to families to advocate for their children with IDD and identify culturally appropriate services and supports available in the community. We collaborate with partners in the disability community to provide essential information and training.

Coming in 2024 – Summer day camps and after school program for school age children in Special Education.
